OMGGG. Yeah.
Been gone for a while. Part of it due to some server/miscommunication/domain renewal/etc. and part due to the fact that I NEVER have what I need to blog with me when I have TIME to do so.

Let’s see. I am at work ALL DAY and my photos are mostly on my camera. I don’t really want to flood the work computer with my files so I tend to upload my stuff from the computer at home. Gonna try and use Flickr again…let’s see how this works out.

SO, let’s see, where to begin? Random stuff has been happening between the bouts of nothing. The weekend was particularly eventful. Lots of running around, errands, almost-apartment-renting, Chinese New Year talent shows & feasts, Valentine’s Day dinner with friends, passing out, cleaning, etc. So like I said, busy weekend. Firstly, from the snow storm last week…

Wrghh? Zillazilla Letmebackin!! DO NO WANT! Snow Fat Tail...

Fun times in the snow :snow: Kitties do NOT like snow. Pretty amusing. Tails were VERY FAT :amused1: The snow was intense. It snowed for a day and a half! there’s still about 1-2 feet of snow on the ground and the mounds of snow that are pushed off the roads and onto sides of streets are getting mountain-like  It’s hard to get into some driveways!

SUNDAY, the Tomato and I went out to Montgomery Community College for some Chinese New Year festivities by my little cousins’ Chinese school. There was a show, food and riddle contests.

Mini-Lion Dance The Line For Food
Valentine's For Kids
Bamboo Stick DanceGolden Ring Dance

Made some fresh chocolate sablés for Valentine’s Day. Packaged them into some cello bags with some kiddie valentines for my little cousins. They all enjoyed them :glad: It was fun making them. Gonna have to make more next year. Underestimated the yield from the original recipe.

We chatted, ate, hung out and chased little kids around before heading out to grab some milk before picking up Ceci & Dave for Valentine’s dinner at Ted’s Montana Grill.

Environment-Friendly Straws Brownie-thing Bison Steak Cheese Burger

CHILI Happy Valentine's Day! Happy Couple? Chips & Dip

DELICIOUS FOOD. The chili was pretty damn good. Prices were fair. Bison meat is pretty damn awesome. Kinda wish it was more accessible. Would definitely use it instead of regular beef :uparrow: The place is also super eco-friendly from their paper straws to the bathrooms and dining area. Pretty sweet.

Dinner was scarfed down, we chatted after emptying our plates. Chatted about such public-inappropriate things like bathroom adventures and whatnot :amused1: AHAHAHAHAHA! Oh man, twas a fun “quiet” Valentine’s Day celebration. Tomato also bought me some roses & a balloon. Haven’t taken a picture of them yet. Gotta get a vase long enough

It was a good weekend

InLaws…Always Fun!

Well…just the mum-in-law…to-be…and her sister-in-law.

Her sis-in-law, B, is absolutely hilarious! And Mumma is such a wonderful woman. She’s quite adorable when the Tomato annoys her. I can tell she misses her boys (D = Tomato’s older brother. Only the two and neither live remotely close to her :dead:

Spent the weekend hanging out with her. She ALWAYS takes us grocery shopping and it makes me feel sooo guilty but I’m glad she’s so giving. I think yesterday, we also hit the pet supplies shop for litter and wetfood and managed to catch their once-a-month KITTEN ADOPTION DAY. OMG. Most were NOT full grown! There was a 3-some of kittens about…3-4 months? GYA!!!!!!!!!!!!! They made their crate look HUUUUUUUUGE. Anyways, it was a huge island of meows and purrs and shivering/shakes in the middle of the store. I got to hold a Sherman. Didn’t get a picture…I was abandoned somehow…?? I turned around and everyone was GONE! (Said they were dropping off the heavy things in the car…)

Had tons of greaaaaaaaaaaaasy food for just about all meals of the weekend. YUMYUM. And spent quite a few hours watching CSI (various flavors: Miami, Vegas, etc?), Medium, Ghost Whisperer, etc. Checked out Coach’s for the Steelers game (not to mention the Eagles won too! Woot! Didn’t find out whether Phillies did or not…)..

All in all, it was fun. Not to mention, Saturday we were stuck in the building since there was a huuge marathon that closed down much of the roads…like the one we live on. LOTS of people in Hartford. But not to stay of course. From our windows we were occoasionally spying on them and managed to spy a truck giving out BAGS. WHUT! We got TONSSSSSSSSS of those drawstring backpacks and they were filled with STUFF!! Like bandaids, coupons, brochures, etc. It was fun. We didn’t get to collect them all (missing a black bag) but the two kinds we got were decent. Who’s to turn down FREE STUFF especially when they say TAKE AS MANY AS YOU LIKE?! Yeah. Tomato looked a little embarassed

Kittycats were good. They hung out with us when we were home. Though all the bathroom occupancy caused Zilla to have an accident :horror: on the couch. Not entirely her fault, she couldn’t hold it and Tomato was in the bathroom with the door shut. Either way, they’re not as shy as they used to be :uparrow:

That was about it. Most of it is out of order. Ah well. Back to the quiet solitude of unemployment now. AWESOME :bawling:

炊飯 ジャぱん (ジャぱん #2)

20091002 Fri @ 12:24 url

So, here’s that bread that was stalking my twitter earlier this week. You can indeed make BREAD in a RICE COOKER. HOWEVER, it takes much patience due to the max temperature of said appliance. Like5 hours…

But let me relate to you WHERE this recipe came from and why the rice cooker. This is from an ANIME that is about BREAD (pan/ぱん). 「焼きたてジャぱん!」 /”Yakitate Japan!” to be precise which translates to “Freshly Baked JaPAN” which is a pun for bread representing Japan …because of the “pan” part which is “bread” in Japanese…. :dead: The show is FULL of lame jokes and TONSSSSSS of PUNNNNNNNNNS. And it’s my absolute FAVORITE show of anything animated. Pure crack. You should probably watch it…now. ASIDE, it’s about a boy who’s goal is to make a bread that represents Japan and could be eaten as a main staple instead of RICE. Azuma Kazuma is his name and he hails from the countryside without any proper schooling in baking and thus all his creations are named “Japan #something”. This one being Japan #2. And that is the history and whatnot of this bread…

Anyways, onto the process!

Firstly, the recipe. I had to convert the recipe onto ounces since my scale only reads that (the original is in metric). It is BEST for non-metric utensiled cooks to use a scale to get the closest accurate measurement. CRUCIAL to cooking, please take the time to measure correctly! (original recipe taken from this translation)

- Bread flour 12.3 oz
- Butter .7 oz
- Sugar .7 oz
- Milk 35 ml
- Water 180 ml
- Dry Yeast .18 oz
- Table salt .23 oz

Again, if you have an electric scale (I have a USPS one… :exclamation: ), please use it and try NOT to round if possible. If anyone really is going to try this, the part about the YEAST is kind of vague so I’ll tell you two options: add more water to the yeast and save the 180 ml for the recipe OR take some water from the 180 ml and add it to the yeast. I did the latter and it turned out fine. I’m going to try the prior when I make this again.

So I’ll truncate the recipe here: Mix bread flour, sugar & salt together in rice cooker bowl/pot. Dissolve the yeast in water. Add water, milk & yeast mixture to dry ingredients and mix well. Mix/knead until the dough comes together and doesn’t feel flour-y (if there’s some flour that won’t stick, it’s ok.). Once that is accomplished, add butter to the dough and knead it through until incorporated. This will make the dough a but moist and you can now pick up all the flour and crumbs in the pot. Knead until the dough is no longer sticky.

Place in a warm place for 1 hour (first fermentation). Remove from pot, remove excess gas by droppping the dough from about 1.5 ft high onto a counter and replace in rice cooker pot. Replace in warm place for another hour (second fermentation). Once the hour is up, set in machine and bake/fire/cook for 1 hour. Flip over and then cook for another hour. And finally, flip once more and cook for the final hour. All in all, 15-20 minutes to prep dough, 2 hours to ferment, 3 hours to cook. 5.5 hours for this… :nocomment:

Your rice cooker should have a timer function…I’m not sure how well this works with a non-timer rice cooker so sorry I can’t offer alterneratives for that! The following are some snaps while in progress. It’s a pretty delicious pan with a pretty simple recipe. The end result was a FLUFFY mellow bread with a thin crust and sooooooooooft crumb. Gonna try a honey pan recipe next…
